GROWING UP AN INTROVERT

I was scrolling through Twitter and discovered the 'Growing Up An Introvert' trend and spent quite a long time looking at the tweets and thinking 'relatable' 'that's totally me' 'I thought I was the only person that did that' so I decided to write a blog post with a list of relatable, introverted things that all the quiet ones out there will totally understand. Low key some of these are still me...

  • When you're with a big group of people and you're finding it really hard to join in the conversation. But when you finally do, everyone reacts like "oh my god, she speaks" "can you speak louder" or even worst, everyone goes silent. And you just want to turn back time and forget you even said anything.

  • Doing something embarrassing and thinking about it for the next 20 years, even though everyone probably forgot about it 10 minutes after.

  • When you really want to go to a party and socialise but you're overthinking about who is going to be there, do you know anyone, what shall I wear, where should I go when I arrive and pretty much everything you shouldn't be stressing about.

  • You can't just invite me somewhere last minute, I enjoy doing nothing so I need to know ahead of time if my plan to do nothing needs to be changed

  • People think you're shy, antisocial or stuck up but really you just enjoy listening and have nothing to say yet.

  • When everyone knows each other at a party and you only know one person so you have to follow them all night.

  • When you're reading out loud in class so you count the lines and practice what you're going to say.

  • When you've got a cough but you've already coughed twice and you don't want to draw attention to yourself so you just basically choke.

Being an introvert can be hard work at times, it can cause some extra stress and take more time to digest situations but I wouldn't change it! I read an article where "Pat McGrath Thinks Shy People Are Actually Bosses Deep Down" and Susan Cain did a talk where she argues that 'introverts should be celebrated'.
